Thursday, September 17, 2020 (Central Time) — 1:30PM - 2:15PM

This panel is composed of Black and Brown Computing and BPC researchers who served on the RESPECT 2020 Organizing committee. Through the lens of the RESPECT 2020 conference and our experiences in academia, we will discuss what it means to be intentional about diversity and inclusion in conference organizing. This panel highlights key decisions and priorities considered when selecting the conference committee, growing the community of authors and reviewers, planning conference participation, and leveraging the resources of a community to move a multi-track conference online. Key takeaways for attendees include the role of intentionality, professional networks/communities, mentorship, leadership, trust, and communication. This panel will conclude with audience Q&A and a discussion about the needs of supporting the growth of diverse and inclusive leadership and participation in computing conferences with a commitment to the RESPECT organization’s goal of promoting inclusion, equity, and diversity in computing.
