May the High Performance Computing Force be With You
Wednesday, September 16, 2020 (Central Time) — 2:45PM - 3:30PM
In the day of scientific computing solving societal problems in health care, bioinformatics, drug design, and rocket science, the core technique that is common among all of these seemingly unrelated domains is discoveries through computational simulations. And the power pack behind these simulations is High Performance Computing (HPC). For every computational domain, there is an increasing need for developing competency in leveraging the HPC resources for graduate and undergraduate research, working in interdisciplinary teams as a CS professional facilitating domain science (biology, physics). The aim of this proposal is to establish a connection between STEM computation and HPC education to prepare students for opportunities in the emerging HPC workforce and research in computational domains. The goals of this workshop are to (1) inform students from a diverse computing background how HPC enables discoveries, (2) provide hands-on exposure to HPC environment, tools, and parallel programming using Codeocean, and (3) inform students of job opportunities in HPC.
